Art Heals @ Robson Square: A Fundraiser for Lapu-Lapu Tragedy Victims
Vancouver, BC – August 4, 2025 — The Philippine Nurses Association of British Columbia (PNABC), led by President and Program Director Clifford Belgica, successfully held Art Heals @ Robson Square, a two-day fundraiser on August 2nd and 3rd, in support of victims of the Lapu-Lapu Block Party tragedy.
The event gathered Filipino-Canadian artists and community members, using art as a powerful tool for healing and solidarity. Highlights included free “Paint to Heal” sessions by artist Karissa Nakurami, providing therapeutic art experiences for attendees of all ages.
Filipino visual artist Raymon Viray Maliwat of the Mixed Media and Music Artists Society of BC (M3ASBC) showcased his artwork “Heal Up,” together with Antonio Matias, M3ASBC President. Also Featured artists Charlie Frenal, Nobel and Jo Ann Belen also contributed their talents.
The highlights of the event was the Trauma Healing Community Mural Workshop led by renowned artist Bert Monterona, offering a space for emotional expression and recovery. Diane Zapanta, Vice-Chairman of Migrante BC, shared how painting became a meaningful part of her healing process after the tragedy.
More than a fundraiser, Art Heals @ Robson Square became a collective expression of compassion, love, resilience, and hope. Through the unifying power of art and music, the Filipino-Canadian community continues to uplift and support those affected.
