VANCOUVER – Filipina lawyer Melissa Remulla Briones is bringing pride to British Columbia’s Filipino community after being named one of the 2026 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World.

Briones, founder of Vancouver-based Northam Law Corporation, will receive the Global FWN100 award in the Founder & Pioneer: The Groundbreaker category, according to an October 19 announcement from her firm.

The Foundation for Filipina Women’s Network will honour her during the 22nd Filipina Leadership Global Summit, scheduled for November 15-19 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Her recognition celebrates a journey familiar to many immigrants: starting again in a new country, rebuilding a professional career and finding ways to give back.

Briones arrived in Canada with Philippine legal credentials and faced the challenge of qualifying to practise in British Columbia. She went on to establish Northam Law Corporation, serving families and businesses in real estate, family law, wills and estates, and corporate matters.

“I came here starting over, like so many in our community. This honour is for every Filipina who has rebuilt her career in a new country and kept going,” Briones said in the firm’s announcement.

Beyond her legal practice, Briones has worked to make legal information more accessible to the Filipino-Canadian community.

Since 2019, she has led more than 70 free community legal education sessions, reaching more than 2,500 people across Metro Vancouver, the firm reported. These sessions help community members better understand legal matters affecting their families, homes and livelihoods.

Her commitment to service also includes mentoring articling students and participating in community and professional organizations, including the Rotary Club of Vancouver Mountainview.

The international honour will also support the next chapter of her community work. As part of the recognition, Briones will undertake a two year Global Pitch Project benefiting Filipina women and girls in British Columbia.

For BC’s Filipino community, her achievement is a source of pride and an encouraging example for newcomers working to re-establish their careers. Her journey shows how perseverance and professional success can create opportunities to serve others.
