As some of you may already know, the Philippines’ Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has already started the registration period for Overseas Voters last 01 December 2026. The registration period will run until 30 September 2027, and beyond that date, registrations to be an overseas voter will no longer be accepted.
While we still have a few months to register, I urge all eligible Filipino citizens in BC, YT, and NWT — dual citizens, permanent residents, and those who are in Canada under work or student permits who are 18 years old or will be 18 years old before the election day on 2028 — to register as an overseas voter. Registering as an overseas voter is free, and can be done at the Consulate from Monday to Friday during business hours. No appointments are necessary, and registration is a breeze as long as you bring the complete documentary requirements:
For Filipino citizens who hold work or student permit holders:
1. Philippine Passport
2. Valid and unexpired Work or Student Permit
For Filipino citizens who are Canadian Permanent Residents
1. Philippine Passport
2. Valid and unexpired PR card
For Filipino-Canadians who are Dual Citizens under RA 9225:
1. Valid Identification Card (eg BC ID, Canadian Passport)
2. RA 9225 / Dual Citizenship documents (Oath of Allegiance, Identification Certificate, Order of Approval)
Once again, I urge all of our eligible kababayan to register to vote for the 2028 elections. Not only is voting a right, but a civic responsibility of all Filipinos — wherever they may be — that determines the future of the country.
