SURREY, BC – The 8th Annual Ceremonial Review of 278 Cormorant Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron was celebrated with great success and pride as community leaders, families, cadets, and distinguished guests gathered to recognize the achievements, discipline, and dedication of young cadets serving the community.

The event was honored by the presence of Mayor Brenda Locke of Surrey, who served as the Reviewing Officer. Mayor Locke commended the cadets for their commitment to leadership, citizenship, and community service, emphasizing the important role that youth programs play in shaping future leaders.

One of the highlights of the event was the outstanding leadership of Mary Jamero, Chairperson of the 278 Cormorant Squadron Sponsoring Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada and a proud Filipino-Canadian. Working closely with Commanding Officer Capt Amar Tiwana of the Canadian Armed Forces, she has helped make the Annual Ceremonial Review a successful and meaningful event. Having served as a Director of the Sponsoring Committee for the past three years, she brought valuable experience and a deep commitment to supporting the cadet program. Her efforts contributed to the strong community support that continues to make the Annual Ceremonial Review one of Surrey’s most anticipated cadet events.

Mary Jamero expressed her gratitude to the cadets, parents, officers, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who contributed to the success of the program. She emphasized that the achievements of the cadets are a reflection of teamwork, dedication, and the unwavering support of families and the community.

“The cadet program provides our youth with valuable life skills, including leadership, discipline, respect, and responsibility,” said Jamero. “Seeing these young people develop confidence and character is truly rewarding.”

The ceremonial review featured military-style inspections, drills, presentations, awards, and demonstrations showcasing the cadets’ accomplishments throughout the training year. Family members and supporters proudly watched as the cadets displayed their skills and professionalism.

Mayor Locke also acknowledged the positive contributions of the Filipino community in Surrey, recognizing leaders such as Mary Jamero for their commitment to youth development and community building.

The event concluded on a high note with presentations, recognition of outstanding cadets, and a renewed commitment to supporting programs that inspire young people to become productive and responsible citizens.

The 8th Annual Ceremonial Review once again demonstrated the strength of community partnerships and the dedication of volunteers who work tirelessly to provide meaningful opportunities for Surrey’s youth. The event served as a proud reminder that through leadership, mentorship, and community support, the next generation is well prepared to meet future challenges and opportunities.
