CONSERVATIVE PARTY

HAPPY PHILIPPINE HERITAGE MONTH

To all Filipino-Canadians across British Columbia,

June is a time to honour the rich culture, strong family values, and hard work of the

Filipino community. Your contributions to our healthcare system, small businesses,

and neighbourhoods have made British Columbia stronger.

As Leader of the BC Conservative Party, I am committed to building a province where

every family can thrive. That means safer communities, lower taxes, affordable

homes, and real opportunity for those who work hard.

Maraming salamat for all that you do for our province every day. May this month be

filled with pride and joy for you and your loved ones.

Kerry-Lynne Findlay, P.C., K.C.

Leader, BC Conservative Party

Statement by Minister Miller on Filipino Heritage Month

Statement

OTTAWA, June 1, 2026

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, made the following statement:

“Filipino Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich Filipino culture and the many contributions made to this country by Filipino Canadians.

With nearly one million people, the Filipino-Canadian community is one of the fastest growing in Canada today. Through its vitality and spirit of solidarity, the community is helping build a richer and more inclusive Canada every day.

Canadians of Filipino descent enrich society in every field: health, education, the arts, sport, science, entrepreneurship, finance, social justice and public life. Their commitment, talent and dedication are an integral part of Canada’s history and are helping shape a promising future for generations to come.

Throughout June, I invite everyone to discover the traditions, stories and values that are part of the rich heritage of the Philippines. To all those celebrating Philippine Independence Day on June 12, I wish you a happy 128th anniversary filled with pride, joy and lasting bonds.” (media@pch.gc.ca/govt.ca)

STATEMENT
Attorney general’s statement on Filipino Heritage Month

VICTORIA – Niki Sharma, Attorney General, has released the following statement in celebration of Filipino Heritage Month:

“This June, British Columbia joins the country in marking Filipino Heritage Month, an occasion to recognize the deep history, rich culture and far-reaching contributions of Filipino communities across our province.

“Filipino history in British Columbia stretches back to the 1880s, with the earliest settlers establishing small communities on Bowen Island and in New Westminster. That was the foundation of what is today a community of more than 174,000 people, making B.C. home to the second-largest Filipino population in Canada and one of the fastest-growing.

“Filipino British Columbians have shaped almost every part of this province’s life, from health care and child care to the trades, business, technology and the arts. Their presence is especially strong on the front lines of care, where Filipino workers help keep our hospitals, long-term care homes and child care centres running.

“We also recognize the strength and resilience the Filipino community has shown over the past year in the face of tragedy, continuing to come together in support and care for one another.

“We know the community is seeking to build the cultural infrastructure it needs. We are committed to working alongside Filipino Canadian organizations to support a provincial Filipino cultural centre, informed by broad provincial engagement that centres the voices and aspirations of the Filipino community throughout the province.”

“This Filipino Heritage Month, I encourage all British Columbians to learn about Filipino culture, support Filipino-owned businesses and community organizations, and celebrate alongside Filipino neighbours, colleagues and friends. In doing so, we honour the bayanihan, the strength in unity, that defines the Filipino community and enriches all of British Columbia.”
