The Filipino community in Victoria, British Columbia is set to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Philippine Bayanihan Community Centre on Friday, May 15, 2026 a historic milestone recognizing one of the first Filipino community centres in British Columbia. The celebration carries the inspiring theme: “From Shared Hands to Shared Home 25 Years of Bayanihan Spirit.”

The special event will bring together community leaders, dignitaries, performers, supporters, and residents from different cultural communities, while especially encouraging the Filipino community to unite in solidarity and inspire Filipino associations and organizations across British Columbia.

Organizers emphasized that the anniversary celebration is not only for the Filipino community in Victoria, but for everyone who believes in multiculturalism, volunteerism, friendship, and community cooperation. The event aims to strengthen unity among Filipino organizations and inspire future generations to continue preserving Filipino heritage, culture, and the true spirit of Bayanihan.

The program will begin at 11:00 AM with guest arrival and registration, followed by the Canadian and Philippine national anthems. Mike Caparas will deliver the Land Acknowledgement, recognizing the traditional territories where the gathering will take place.

Cultural pride will be showcased through performances by the Sampaguita Dancers presented by Tita Quigley, highlighting the beauty and richness of Filipino traditions and arts. Welcome remarks will be delivered by Melissa Badua, while Laila Pires will present the history of Bayanihan and its remarkable journey over the past 25 years.

The celebration will also feature messages from distinguished guests including Philippine Consul General Dra. Gina Jamoralin, Member of Parliament Will Greaves, former Victoria Police Chief Del Manak, Mayor Dean Murdock, and Mayor Marianne Alto, who are all expected to recognize the contributions of the Filipino community to the cultural and social fabric of British Columbia.

Following lunch, the audience will enjoy musical performances by classical singers before participating in an open discussion and community-building session designed to encourage stronger cooperation among Filipino associations and the broader multicultural community.

For many attendees, the anniversary represents more than just a celebration it is a tribute to the sacrifices, volunteerism, dedication, and unity of the Filipino pioneers who helped establish a permanent home for the Filipino community in Victoria.

The Philippine Bayanihan Community Centre continues to serve as a cultural and social hub where community gatherings, educational activities, outreach programs, and cultural celebrations are held, helping preserve Filipino identity while promoting inclusiveness and friendship among all communities.
