WHO said LeBron James is old fogey?
Hello?
At 41, James does not only have the usual spring in his legs. He also has so much gas still left in his tank. He is short to being labelled Mr. Forever. Proof: he carried the Los Angeles Lakers again to a pulsating 112-108 victory over the Houston Rockets last weekend.
That moved the Lakers to a 3-0 card in their best-of-seven series against the Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Western Conference playoffs. Just one more win and they advance.
Again, James starred in the win, swiping his third steal in the last 13.6 seconds of the game to trigger LA’s resurrection.
What he did next was next to impossible?
Not to James.
Have you forgotten? He makes difficult things look easy. A habit his bashers love to hate.
And this night was no different.
He fired an improbable three. The ball swishing the net. Overtime.
The five-minute extension was but a mere show of going through the motions as James towed the Lakers to a win never doubted by, yes, James’ own Mom.
And yes, LA’s Marcus Smart starred in overtime, scoring eight of his 21 points in that period. By doing that, he preserved his three charities in regulation after he got fouled attempting a trey, slashing Houston’s six-point lead to three, 101-98, with mere ticks remaining.
Then, James took over, burying his triple for a 101-all tie that forged overtime.
So, who said it’s time for LeBron James to hang up his No. 23 jersey?
Hello, again.
At 41, James does not only have eyes for threes. He can still spot an alley-oop when he sees one.
He did it in the Game Three win, issuing one to his own son, Bronny, who went on to finish with 5 points.
“Just trying to seize the opportunity,” said James in describing the feat that made it the first ever father-and-son alley-oop milestone in NBA history.
So, quit that crap calling for James to retire.
Last weekend alone, he had 29 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, a clutch overtime-sending 3-pointer in the last 13.6 seconds of regulation and one incredible alley-oop to his son.
Does LA need Luka Doncic, out with a hamstring strain?
Does LA need offensive gunner Austin Reaves, down with an oblique injury?
Oh, well, you can say Houston lost because it played without its No. 1 weapon, Kevin Durant, out with a sprained ankle.
But Alperen Sengun more than made up for Durant’s absence, collecting 33 points and 16 rebounds.
And Houston even led by 15 points, 6 in the last 30 seconds of regulation.
Oh, well, by the way, the Rockets defeated the Lakers in Game 4, 115-96, in Houston on Monday to stay alive.
Still, with their 3-1 lead, the Lakers remain poised to clinch the series in two days’ time or so in LA.
Obviously, they want their coronation done at home?
Makes sense.
