A decade of community celebration at Park Place

Filipino residents at Park Place in Vancouver’s Killarney neighbourhood have celebrated 10 years of gathering to welcome the Christmas season.

On December 6, 2025, the neighbours marked a decade of friendship and camaraderie with a well-attended party at the townhouse complex’s hall.

Attending as special guest was George Chow, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of British Columbia representing Vancouver-Fraserview, where Park Place is located.

Leading the organizing effort for the party were Cristy Parido, Shirley Bui, Mary Agbayani, Ferdinand and Alice Ariola, Ferdinand Sarmiento, and Carlito Pablo, with support from William Yacyac, Julio Clorion, Renato and Betty Quintana, Minggi Penales, and Jun and Eleanor Dayan. 

Ferdinand Sarmiento provided sounds and lights. Dinner was potluck.

The annual Christmas gathering tradition started in 2015 when Pol Go, Waldo Garcia, Ferdinand Ariola, Julio Clorion, and Carlito Pablo initiated a party for and by Filipino residents.

Attendees were in for a pleasant surprise when Shirley Bui read a message from strata president Tung Khang Duong, which stated that residents will have a refund of around $500 per unit from savings in the recent roofing project. 

Under the leadership of Tung Khang Duong, residents were able to use Park Place’s community hall with generous support from the strata council.

Former strata president Louise Marphis and ex-resident Dennis Espejo were among the guests in the celebration.
