SURREY, B.C. — The OLGC (Our Lady of Good Counsel- Surrey)) parish community is celebrating the ordination of Deacon Jerome Robles, whose journey of faith has been closely connected to the parish since his elementary school years.

Robles was ordained to the diaconate by Archbishop Richard Smith on October 16 at Holy Rosary Cathedral. Family, friends and supporters gathered for the Mass, marking a significant milestone in his religious vocation.

For this writer, the celebration holds a personal connection. I remember Jerome as a young student, a classmate of my son Julian from their elementary school days at OLGC through their high school graduation at Holy Cross. Seeing him now enter the diaconate makes this milestone especially meaningful.

According to OLGC’s Facebook post, Robles continued his education at Christ the King Seminary after attending OLGC Elementary and Holy Cross High School.

Throughout the years, he remained actively involved in parish life, participating in and leading various groups and activities. The parish also noted his gratitude for the Salesian community and its influence on his spiritual development.

In celebrating his ordination, OLGC recognized the spirit of St. John Bosco and the Salesian tradition as part of the community that helped nurture his calling to serve the Church.

OLGC School Principal Gerard Wright served as the First Reader during the ordination Mass, adding another connection between the celebration and Robles’ school community.

Speaking after the ceremony, the newly ordained deacon encouraged young people to consider a religious vocation.

For OLGC, the occasion was both a celebration of Robles’ commitment and a reflection of the role that parish life, Catholic education and community support can play in nurturing vocations.

The parish extended its congratulations and prayers to Deacon Jerome as he begins this new chapter of ministry, expressing gratitude for having been part of his journey and hope for his continued service to God and His people.
