Veteran MLA returns as newcomer wins Vancouver-South Granville in preliminary provincial election results

VANCOUVER — Two Filipina candidates have emerged victorious in British Columbia’s October 24 provincial election, with preliminary results showing Mable Elmore returning in Vancouver-Kensington and Lara Honrado winning Vancouver-South Granville.

Both ran for the BC NDP. Their results put the province on course to have two women of Filipino heritage serving together in the Legislative Assembly, expanding a presence that began with Elmore’s historic first election in 2009.

According to Elections BC’s initial count, updated October 25, Elmore received 7,278 votes, ahead of Conservative candidate Aron Lageri’s 5,599. Green candidate Adam Hawk received 2,716 votes. Elmore’s advantage stood at 1,679 votes.

Elmore became the first person of Filipino heritage elected to B.C.’s legislature in 2009. Her latest result continues a political career that has made her a familiar figure in the province’s Filipino-Canadian community.

Honrado, meanwhile, received 10,427 votes in Vancouver-South Granville, ahead of Conservative candidate Lisa Phillips, who recorded 6,489. Green candidate Maria J Cruz received 4,151 votes. Honrado’s lead over Phillips was 3,938 votes.

Her entry into provincial politics follows a career in public policy, communications and community relations. She previously directed community relations for former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson and helped develop Culture Shift, the city’s cultural plan for 2020–2029.

Honrado also co-founded the Ouano Foundation, which supports human rights defenders internationally. Her background includes work with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa and studies in English and political science at the University of California, Irvine.

The two candidates bring different stages of public service to the legislature: Elmore’s years of elected experience and Honrado’s background in policy and civic leadership.

For Filipino Canadians, their success marks a significant moment in provincial political participation. It builds on the representation Elmore established more than a decade ago and opens another chapter with Honrado’s arrival.

The results remain preliminary. Elections BC has scheduled the final count for November 6, when remaining ballots will be included before the outcomes become official.

Results current as of October 25, 2026.
