For Maria Santos-Greaves, helping people hear better is deeply personal. Having experienced hearing loss since her twenties, she understands how it can affect everyday conversations, relationships, and the simple joy of connecting with loved ones.
That understanding has guided her work at Surrey Hearing Care Inc., which she has nurtured since 2009. Its slogan, “Helping You Hear the World,” reflects a mission that reaches beyond hearing care to helping people feel welcome, understood, and supported.
“I understand the severity of hearing impairment and how vital hearing is to be able to communicate with my loved ones and enjoy life to the fullest,” Maria says. “At Surrey Hearing Care, everyone is welcome. Just come in and we will care for you like family.”
Her commitment extends beyond the clinic’s doors. Through Surrey Hearing Care’s mobile hearing clinic van, Maria and her team have brought free hearing tests to communities across the Lower Mainland, including underserved cultural communities, homeless shelters, and First Nations communities. For Maria, reaching people who face barriers to care is an essential part of serving others, especially seniors.
Her contributions have earned recognition across Canada and within Surrey. In 2015, she was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Immigrants. She was also a finalist in the Entrepreneur category of the Surrey Women in Business Awards in 2015 and 2016, and became an award winner in 2022. Nominated a Top 100 Influential Filipina in the World. The Rotary Foundation recognized her charitable contributions by naming her a Paul Harris Fellow.
Maria has continued to expand her entrepreneurial work. In August 2022, she established Minamar Janitorial Services. On September 1, 2025, she acquired the former Big C Sari-Sari Store, renaming it MinaMar Asian Store a new chapter in her work serving the community.
Across these ventures, Maria brings a personal understanding of what it means to need support and the determination to provide it. Whether helping someone hear a loved one more clearly or welcoming a customer into her store, she continues to build connections through everyday service.
