Tomorrow, September 25, is the gala night of “Bongga Ka Day! Annie Batungbakal,” the musical based on the songs of Hotdog.
We chanced upon Atasha Muhlach’s parents, Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez, when we watched the musical’s opening last Friday, September 18.
Atasha’s performance in the titular role got encouraging feedback on opening night.
Atasha must have felt challenged by the bashings she received as early as the announcement of her being chosen as Annie Batungbakal.
She was already judged to be unfit for the role played by the late National Artist Nora Aunor in the movie version.
But Atasha proved her detractors wrong.
She’s not the heir apparent of Aga and Charlene for nothing.
And that’s despite the sprain Atasha was suffering that evening.
Aga chose not to make a big deal of it.
Charlene just said, “Maging positive at happy na lang tayo.
“Ang sa akin lang, just you know, continue to be strong, and not just for Atasha but for everyone. Don’t let anybody stop you from reaching for your dreams.”
Aga added, “Roads are never easy, may mga ups and downs. But always go for your dreams.
“Huwag po kayong matakot, and enjoy the journey.”
“Bongga Ka Day” will run at the Newport Performing Arts Theater until October 24. (G. Rula/ Malaya)
