Acclaimed Filipino historian and author welcomed by Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin and the Filipino-Canadian community
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Renowned Filipino historian, author and public intellectual Dr. Ambeth R. Ocampo received a warm welcome in Vancouver during a special gathering held at the Philippine Consulate General office in Vancouver, bringing Philippine history closer to members of the Filipino-Canadian community.
Hosted by Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin, the event brought together community members, academics, officials and admirers of Ocampo’s work for an engaging gathering centred on Philippine history, culture, identity and heritage.
Consul General Jamoralin welcomed Dr. Ocampo and the guests to the Consulate, underscoring the value of bringing distinguished Filipino scholars and cultural figures closer to Filipinos living abroad.
Ocampo is one of the Philippines’ best-known contemporary historians and authors. Through his books, lectures, newspaper columns and public appearances, he has built a wide following by presenting Philippine history in a way that makes the past accessible and engaging to readers beyond the traditional classroom.
His Vancouver appearance offered members of the community a rare opportunity to hear directly from a historian whose writings have encouraged generations of Filipinos to look more closely at their country’s past.
