The congregation of St. Mary the Virgin South Hill Church thanked Bishop (ret.) Alex Wandag for serving as the church’s priest while Rev. Expedito Farinas and his wife Felly are in the Philippines.

Bishop Alex celebrated the Sunday worship services at St. Mary’s from April 12 to May 3.

At the first anniversary of the Lapu-Lapu tragedy on Sunday, April 26, he led the congregation in the prayers for the Babáng Luksâ, the lighting of the candles, offering of flowers and in remembering the lives lost, those injured, and the many whose lives were impacted by the tragedy. In his homily, he said, “we too shall overcome as we draw comfort and strength from the Easter messages through Christ who overwhelmed death by his resurrection. We Filipinos are hardy people known for our resiliency. We can overcome whatever challenges that come our way.”

Bishop Wandag is the first Bishop of the Diocese of Santiago (2001). He is the parish’s Honorary Minister at St Michael’s Multicultural Anglican church  since 2022.  He came to Canada after his retirement in the Philippines.
