Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Libraries is helping remove barriers to everyday life by introducing free period products in washrooms across all Surrey Libraries branches. Pads and tampons are now available at no cost, to anyone who needs them as part of a new initiative called Project Period.

Products are available in adult public washrooms and patrons are encouraged to take what they need. The initiative helps address period poverty by reducing the financial burden of accessing essential menstrual products. In doing so, it supports library patrons’ basic dignity and helps them to participate fully in daily life.

“Our libraries are welcoming spaces that people rely on every day,” said Lisa Werring, Chair of the Surrey Libraries Board of Trustees. “Providing free period products is a simple but meaningful way to support health, dignity, and equity in our community.”

“Surrey Libraries is uniquely positioned to help,” said Werring. “Our branches are located close to schools, workplaces, community centres, and other essential services, making them an ideal place to ensure these products are freely available.”
