Surrey, B.C. – The City of Surrey is inviting the public to apply for volunteer positions on the board of directors for the 55+ BC Games, taking place Sept. 14-18, 2027.

“Volunteers play a key role in making large events like the 55+ BC Games possible,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Serving on the board is a meaningful way to support your community and help create a memorable experience for participants and visitors. I encourage everyone to be part of the Games, whether that’s volunteering, participating, or cheering on the athletes.”

The 55+ BC Games bring together adults aged 55 and older from across British Columbia to participate in sports and activities while celebrating healthy active aging and community spirit. Surrey is proud to host this major provincial event and is seeking passionate community members to help guide planning and delivery.

Volunteer board members will work closely with City staff, community partners and the BC Seniors Games Society. The City is seeking applicants for the following positions:

  • Vice-President
  • Director of Administration
  • Director of Culture and Events
  • Director of Friends of the Games (Sponsorship and Partnerships)
  • Director of Medical Services
  • Director of Promotions (Marketing and Communications)
  • Director of Protocol
  • Director of Sport
  • Director of Technology Services
  • Director of Transportation
  • Director of Venue Operations
  • Director of Volunteer and Participant Services

Orientation session  swill begin in May. The board will formally incorporate early this all and work together to organize and present the Games through fall 2027.

The City’s Sport Tourism Strategy aims to advance Surrey as a leader in the sport tourism sector, maximizing economic benefits and sport development opportunities. The 2027 55+ BC Games will bring thousands of participants, volunteers, and visitors to Surrey and showcase the city’s vibrant spirit and welcoming atmosphere.
