The Rey Valera Valentine’s Concert and Canada Tour at the Massey Theatre was an unforgettable evening of music, nostalgia, and Filipino pride, drawing an almost sold-out crowd eager to hear the Maestro’s timeless hits. From the first note to the final encore, the audience sang along, filling the theatre with warmth and excitement.
The night opened with vibrant performances by Ed and Salve, followed by the dynamic Six Degrees of Silence Band, who energized the crowd and set the tone for an evening of world-class Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Their engaging set prepared the audience for the much-anticipated appearance of Rey Valera.
A highlight of the evening was the special guest performance by the renowned BC youth choir Himig Kabataan Cultural Society. The talented choristers joined Rey Valera in a moving rendition of “Malayo Pa ang Umaga,” blending youthful harmonies with the Maestro’s iconic voice. The collaboration drew enthusiastic applause and was one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Himig Kabataan further wowed the audience with beautifully arranged performances of “Umagang Kay Ganda,” “Manila,” and the beloved classic “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko,” showcasing their vocal discipline, stage presence, and deep appreciation for Filipino musical heritage.
Another group, Harana, sang some OPM songs that made the audience reminisce about their younger days.
Rey Valera delighted fans with a parade of his greatest hits, each song met with cheers and heartfelt sing-alongs. True to his engaging style, he stepped down from the stage to connect directly with concertgoers, inviting audience participation and creating an intimate, joyful atmosphere despite the large venue.
Adding to the excitement was a raffle draw for Air Canada tickets, which brought extra anticipation and celebration to an already electric evening.
The concert, put together by Tribu Productions, Golden Star, Silent I, Pinoy Cravings, Spectrum Prints, Ms. Filipiniana, Philippine Nurses Association in BC, and Germvengers Sanitation & Disinfection Services, with media sponsor ReyFort Media, GMA Pinoy TV and PCI News, was more than a performance—it was a celebration of music, community, and the enduring legacy of Rey Valera.
