MANILA, Philippines — Singer Regine Velasquez-Alcasid revealed she has been struggling with performance anxiety despite delivering a successful duet with international artist Josh Groban during his “GEMS” concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday night.
Velasquez joined Groban onstage for a performance of “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom of the Opera.
After the show, the veteran singer shared on social media that although it was “wonderful and an honor” to perform with Groban, she felt extremely nervous and anxious throughout the day, even forgetting to eat.
She added that recent performances including her regular appearances on “ASAP” have become more challenging.
“Lately every single performance for me is such a struggle even doing ASAP. And it used to excite me a source of joy but now it give me so much anxiety,” wrote Velasquez on her X account.
She added, “I still LOVE singing I do but performing on stage…….. maybe it’s part of getting old I don’t know. But it’s kinda of heartbreaking,” she added.
Aside from Velasquez, Filipino artists Martin Nievera and Julie Anne San Jose also appeared as guest performers during the concert.
“What a dream… such an honor and inspiration @joshgroban! It’s a full-circle moment. From listening to your songs eversince I started my musical journey to singing together felt so surreal! Thank you for sharing your kindness and music,” San Jose wrote on Instagram as she shared her photos with Groban.
Groban performed several of his well-known songs and classic ballads, including “You Raise Me Up,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “To Where You Are.” (I. Iglesias/Manila Times)
