The Pacific Canada Heritage Centre – Museum of Migration Society is proud to collaborate as the host sponsor with White Pine Pictures and Adobe Productions International in showing “Shining Light: A Vietnamese-Canadian Legacy”, an extraordinary documentary film, which will have its Vancouver premiere at the Rio Theatre on March 8th, 2026.

We hope you will come out on March 8th, International Women’s Day, to support and see the film as well as listen to introductory speakers, a panel discussion with Chieu-Anh and others, and opportunities for a Q&A session with the audience. Advance tickets will be on sale through our website https://www.pchc-mom.ca and the Rio Theatre riotheatre.ca/tickets starting now, as well as on the film date.

Our organization believes in the power of storytelling as a way to educate and uplift the voices and narratives of immigrants, refugees and newcomers who are all part of the larger story of courage, migration and belonging.   In “Shining Light” you will encounter the brave and beautiful story of protagonists Chieu-Anh Vu (born aboard a sinking cargo ship fleeing Vietnam) and her mother, Mui, who both arrived at a refugee camp in Hong Kong, and then settled in Canada 3 weeks later in the Spring of 1975. The film recounts Chieu-Anh’s tribulations and triumphs on her settlement journey as a newborn to where she is today, a successful e-commerce entrepreneur.  In the film, former Canadian diplomats and journalists provide the historical context of what was happening at that time and how the Canadian government, citizens and communities opened their hearts and hands in welcoming thousands of refugees fleeing their homeland.

On behalf of White Pine Pictures and Adobe Productions, we are also seeking monetary donations to assist in bringing this important documentary and discussion to Vancouver, and to cover the costs of Chieu-Anh’s transportation and accommodation.  Should you wish to support, donations can be made at  https://www.pchc-mom.ca/donate

If you can please forward this email, along with the poster attachment, to your colleagues, friends, and family that would be greatly appreciated, as we are hoping for a large turnout for this important event.

We very much look forward to your attendance and participation in the illuminating screening of SHINING LIGHT on March 8th, 2026!
