Preschool registration to open in Surrey with $10-a-day programs through provincial funding

Surrey, B.C. – Registration for the City of Surrey’s preschool and group child-care programs opens tomorrow, Feb. 3, and runs through Feb. 5. Families can access licensed, play-based programs for children ages three to five, including spaces available for just $10 per day through a provincial partnership. Programs run from September to June at recreation facilities across the city, with flexible schedules to support families. 

“We know how hard it is for families to find affordable child care,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Thanks to this provincial partnership, more families can access preschool and get the care they need without delay.”  

Provincial funding supports $10-a-day programs at Cloverdale Mini Recreation Centre and Fraser Heights Recreation Centre through the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. The City has nine applications in progress to offer the program at more City-operated preschool facilities.  

City of Surrey preschool programs are led by qualified early childhood educators and follow the B.C. Early Learning Framework, focusing on learning through play and a smooth transition to kindergarten.
