Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu has been vocal about her love for her siblings, especially one of her sisters, Lakam Chiu. Over the years, the two have been inseparable and even dubbed her eldest sister as her “number one critic, her number one fan, and superwoman” at one point.
Lakam is the eldest sibling and has been beside Kim on her journey in the industry for several years. Kim has three other siblings, Wendolyn, William, and John Paul, whom she is close to as well.
Back in 2023, Lakam was admitted to the hospital due to an undisclosed illness and was in critical condition for the first five days. Fortunately, she recovered but her family had to make a life-changing decision without knowing if she would survive then.
Kim previously wished for her speedy recovery and asked for prayers from her followers on social media.
“Kung may hihingin man akong regalo sa inyo ngayon yun ay prayers para sa ate Lakam ko. Everything happened in a snap of a finger. She is my strength, and now the word strength becomes blurry. Please pray for her recovery,” Kim said.
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kapamilya actress surprised her older sibling with a simple birthday celebration. She previously expressed how grateful she is for Lakam who has stuck with her for years.
“Thank you is not enough for everything that you do for us, especially for me. We’ve been on this journey together from the start. Thank you for sticking by my side and not leaving me—most of all, for thinking for me when I don’t want to think anymore. Being my shield and protector, for always being the first one to pick me up every time I almost fall. Thank you for giving me hope. Thank you for being the pillar of our family! We are strong because of you!!! We love you, achi,” Kim previously wrote.
On Lakam’s part, she has also shared on social media about their bond as sisters. In a previous post, she shared how Kim has been “one of the greatest blessings” she has ever received.
“Having you as my sister is one of the greatest blessings I have ever received..May you continue to inspire us with your incomparable talent, dedication, pure heart and positivity,” Lakam previously expressed.
Fast Forward to 2025, netizens have noticed that the two sisters have been quiet about their closeness on social media. Speculations and rumors began spreading on social media with theories about the alleged fallout between the two.
Kim then dropped the news earlier today, December 2, as she filed a complaint against Lakam after she discovered financial discrepancies in their business. The actress filed for a criminal complaint for qualified theft against her sister.
“After careful consideration and months of internal review, I have made the difficult decision to file a legal case for qualified theft against my sister, Lakambini Chiu, in relation to serious financial discrepancies discovered within my business operations. This decision did not come easily. It is one of the most painful steps I have ever taken in my life,” Kim shared.
“I ask for understanding, respect, as our family navigates this very difficult chapter. I am hopeful that through the proper legal channels, clarity and fairness will prevail,” she added.
