MANILA — Actor Matteo Guidicelli talked about his relationship with wife, Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo, as he guested on ABS-CBN’s “Kuan On One,” hosted by Melai Cantiveros.
In the interview, Guidicelli recalled how he always say or manifest that Geronimo will be his wife someday.
“I knew when I was 15 or 16 years old, I told my team, ‘this woman will be my wife,’” said Guidicelli, who was born and raised in Cebu.
Guidicelli said it was in Cebu when Billy Crawford introduced him to Geronimo. After studying college in the United States, he returned to showbiz and was given a chance to guest in one of Geronimo’s concerts abroad where they worked for three weeks.
To cut the long story short, Guidicelli started pursuing Geronimo after the concerts.
Now, Guidicelli and Geronimo are married for five years but have been together since 2013. They only went public with their relationship a year later. The couple’s clandestine wedding happened in Taguig City on February 20, 2020, just weeks before the lockdown was imposed.
Like any relationship, Guidicelli admitted that theirs is also not perfect. “Nothing is perfect. Nothing is ever perfect,” he said.
“In a relationship and you know this, what you see on social media are all perception, hindi ba? It’s all perception, it looks happy, perfect. But behind that, behind every love story, there’s a real rollercoaster ride, there are ups and downs, there are challenges. And all these challenges make us who we are today. They help build wisdom. All these life lessons teach us to become better human beings,” Guidicelli said.
Guidicelli then honored Geronimo for becoming not only a wonderful wife but a strong woman.
“I’m very, very proud of Sarah na talagang in our five years of marriage, she has grown to be a wonderful wife, wonderful woman, independent and talagang blooming into person that I can never imagine,” Guidicelli said.
For Guidicelli, marriage is marathon that requires consistent work and commitment. “Every single day, kailangan talagang pagtrabahuhan ‘yan. Hindi ‘yung pag-give up, wala na,” he said.
Guidicelli said relationship works when a couple knows how to compromise. “And always put God in the middle, always,” he added.
In five years of being married, Guidecelli has learned the importance of patience and humility.
“First few years of marriage if we had a fight, you had to stand your ground ‘No, it’s this way!’ But now, after five years, you really learn na talagang patience. Take a step, listen and it’s okay. … always take the humble road,” Guidicelli said.
