Filmmaker Antoinette “Tonet” Jadaone responded to Kris Aquino’s recent explanation of the “last day” gifts she gave to the production team during their collaboration on a 2011 horror film.
In August 2024, Tonet shared on her podcast, “Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast,” that Kris is known for her generosity in giving last-day gifts to the production staff after filming projects.
Among the gifts Kris has previously given were iPhones, iPads, a television, Rimowa luggage, and even cash.
Tonet shared in the podcast that Kris’ assistant, Alvin, had asked her and director Irene Villamor what they wanted.
At that time, Tonet worked as a script continuity supervisor on the 2011 horror film “Segunda Mano,” while Irene was the assistant director.
According to Tonet, Irene had replied to Alvin, saying that it would be up to Kris to decide on the gift, assuming she would receive an iPhone. However, to their surprise, they received luxurious towels instead. Tonet humorously remarked, “Ask and you shall receive.”
Three years after the podcast aired, Kris responded to Tonet through an Instagram post.
“For direk [Antoinette Jadaone], sana kinwento mo ‘yung background why tayo na take [two], because na-corrupt ‘yung scene when [Dingdong Dantes]’s character was trying to kill me, nakalublob ako from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., and what you forgot, nakisama ka as well as Direk Ayrin (Irene) sa paglublob natin,” she wrote on Monday, November 17.
“But walang nagamit. You said when Dong [and] I were wrapped in our towels, masarap siguro talaga ‘pag Egyptian cotton towels,” Kris added.
Kris then mentioned that she is open to giving Tonet and Irene “anything new that Apple released in 2025.”
Among the products released by the tech giant this year are the iPhone 17 series, the iPhone 17 Air, and the 11th generation iPad, among others.
“But I have a proposal,” Kris said, referring to the directors.
“Expect a call from Alvin (yes, he’s still with me, after more than 20 years) this week…” she continued in her Instagram post.
Tonet later saw her post and responded in the comments section:
“OMGGGGG, MADAM KRISSSSSSS!!!” the director exclaimed with emojis of hearts and loudly crying faces.
“Ayrin [Irene] and I miss youuuuuuuu!!! Comeback na ba ito????” Tonet added.
Kris took a break from showbiz to prioritize her health after her health began to decline in 2016.
She is battling 11 autoimmune conditions, which include rheumatoid arthritis, thyroiditis, chronic spontaneous urticaria, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), lupus (SLE), fibromyalgia, polymyositis and mixed connective tissue disease.
In her heyday, Kris Aquino was dubbed the “Box Office Horror Queen” for her iconic roles in blockbuster horror films.
Apart from “Segunda Mano,” she also starred in “Feng Shui,” “Sukob,” and “Dalaw.”
Beyond her successful film career, Kris was also a well-loved television host, known for her work on a variety of shows, including talk shows and game shows such as “The Buzz” and “PILIPINAS GAME KNB?”
Kris and Tonet also worked together on the 2015 film “All You Need Is Pag-ibig,” where Kris played a role and Tonet directed the film. (J. Malasig/Interaksyon)
