MANILA, Philippines — Hollywood star George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney visited Malacañan Palace on Friday, November 14, to pay a courtesy call to the first family.
The Clooneys met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos where Amal reportedly brought up issues related with press freedom and the protection of Filipino journalists.
On Sunday, November 16, Amal will will open the Social Good Summit and discuss global challenges of free speech and civil liberties.
She will then be joined by George in sit-down segment with Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa, whose news outlet organized the event and is a former client of Amal.
Among those participating at the summit are Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Angat Buhay executive director Raffy Magno, Olympic gymnast Aleah Finnegan, artist-entrepreneur Saab Magalona, journalists Inday Espina-Verona and Patricia Evangelista, and directors Antoinette Jadaone, Rodina Singh, and Paolo Villaluna.
George is in the middle of an awards campaign for his latest film “Jay Kelly” with Adam Sandler wherein the two play an actor and his manager on their travels contemplating their lives and legacies.
“Jay Kelly” is among Netflix’s major contenders for the awards season along with “Frankenstein,” “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” “A House of Dynamite,” “Nouvelle Vague,” and “KPop Demon Hunters.” (K. Purnell/philstar.com)
