A team of talented Filipino makeup artists from Vancouver brought their artistry backstage at ASAP 30, transforming the faces of some of the Philippines’ biggest stars. In this interview, they share their behind-the-scenes experiences, creative process, and pride in representing Filipino talent on one of the year’s most dazzling stages.

Makeup artist Rhea Zamora
Filipino makeup artist Rhea Zamora brought her artistry and precision to the glitz of ASAP 30 Vancouver, helping transform the stars for the grand stage. In this interview, Rhea shares her inspiring journey, behind-the-scenes experiences, and what it meant to showcase Filipino talent in an international entertainment event.
How did you get started on your career as a makeup artist? Was it here in Canada or in the Philippines?
I grew up being inspired by beauty because of my mom’s line of work — she’s a dermatologist, and so is my sister. I was surrounded by skincare and wellness from a young age, and I witnessed firsthand how taking care of someone’s skin can uplift their confidence and spirit.
That environment shaped me. In 2012, I decided to pursue my passion and became a certified makeup artist in the Philippines. I started doing makeup for friends and family, and I loved seeing how a little artistry could make people feel more confident. When I moved to Canada, I continued to grow — I trained and became certified again as an esthetician and Lash Tech. It’s been a full-circle journey combining both my Filipino roots and my new experiences here in Canada.
Why did you take up this career? Do you have a day job or is this full-time?
I took up this career because I’ve always believed that beauty is a form of service — a way to help people feel confident, valued, and seen. What started as a passion became a purpose.
I now do this full-time through RZ Rhea Zamora Aesthetics, where I offer bridal and event makeup, facials, lash, and brow services. I recently started renting a studio space for my business here in Burnaby, and I’m truly grateful for how God has been guiding each step. I’m hoping and praying that one day, if it’s in God’s favor, I’ll be able to open my very own studio.
Why do you think Pinoys are so good at this form of art?
Filipinos have a natural sense of creativity, warmth, and attention to detail — we put our heart into everything we do. I think that’s what makes our artistry stand out. Whether it’s makeup, lashes, or skincare, we blend skill with genuine care. We don’t just make people look beautiful; we make them feel beautiful.
What do you want to work on next? What are your other projects?
Right now, I’m focused on growing RZ Rhea Zamora Aesthetics and creating a space where clients can experience Korean-inspired facial treatments, lash and brow services, and makeup artistry — all grounded in excellence, care, and faith.
In the future, I hope to launch skincare and beauty workshops for aspiring artists — to share what I’ve learned and help others grow with purpose and integrity. My heart is to keep learning, keep serving, and continue glorifying God through this gift He’s entrusted to me.
I’m truly grateful for this opportunity to share my story and represent Filipino artistry here in Canada. It’s a blessing to do what I love while staying grounded in my faith and values.
