The Canadian federal government on November 4, 2025 unveiled its 2025 budget, which include support for a future Filipino community and cultural centre in Metro Vancouver.

This development was warmly welcomed by the community, starting with the Filipino Legacy Society (FLS), which released a statement on the same day of the budget.

FLS is the proponent of a Filipino cultural centre on Main Street in Vancouver, a project that is being endorsed by city Mayor Ken Sim.

Mayor Sim is co-presenting with Councillor Lenny Zhou a motion to facilitate the development of a Filipino cultural centre on Main Street.

Vancouver city council is expected to vote on the motion in late November.

Sim’s chief of staff Trevor Ford has told the community in several meetings that the Main Street project of FLS is the only active project for a cultural centre in Vancouver.

Below are statements by Filipino organizations about the federal government’s support for a Filipino centre.
