The “kath” is officially out of the bag!

The secret is out and it can be told — Kathryn Bernardo is the latest and the youngest Filipino celebrity to have a wax figure at the iconic attraction Madame Tussauds Hongkong.

Bernardo is the latest addition to the growing number of Filipino personalities with a wax figure. She follows Manny Pacquiao, Miss Universe queens Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray, Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, and “It’s Showtime” host Anne Curtis. She is the sixth in that illustrious league.

ABS-CBN News caught up with Bernardo during the actual fitting and measurement process of the Tussauds team. Up to that point, the actress couldn’t believe it herself.

“Di ko alam how to react ’cause it’s like a gift that, you know, I didn’t see coming. It’s a gift na alam kong hindi ko naman mare-receive.”

She added, “I never thought that I’d be immortalized this way. Ang galing because ang proseso nila ang gandang ma-witness ‘yun. How they work, kung gaano sila ka-meticulous sa detalye. Hindi lahat ng artista nagkakaroon ng ganitong opportunity to be immortalized this way.”

The process took four hours. The team used advanced technology in getting all her measurements, skin tone, and hair color, among others.

“They started with the molding of my hand, and the pose that we want to recreate,” Bernardo shared. “Aside from the photos, they have a camera that they will scan you, hindi ka gagalaw at makikita mo na ‘yung mold mo doon.”

She went on: “Kilay, skin tone, hindi lang siya basta-basta. ‘Yung shade ng skin tone ko, so dapat ‘pag nabuo ‘to, makikita natin kung nag-age siya.”

The team measured and captured every corner of her body. “Kukunan pala nila 360 all angles, so medyo hair color, nail color, ‘yung polish, they even asked my make up artist anong ginamit na products and shade. Nakaka-excite kasi it’s like creating your twin! Today, we have created my twin! I will meet them in 10-12 months!”

As for the look, what did she choose?

“It’s a pretty long discussion with my team and Madame Tussauds because ang hirap, sa dami ng gowns and looks. Anong looks ang pipiliin mo to be there forever. Oh my gosh, alam na alam mo yung look na ‘to! We picked that look, 1 it’s very timeless, 2 it’s very clean, neat, and it’s very simple. Lahat kami nag-agree na na this is the look.”

Her soon-to-be-unveiled wax figure will be displayed in Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong next year. And more than anything, Hong Kong holds an important place in Bernardo’s heart.

“It’s something na ‘pag makita ng kapwa Pinoy mo, something to be proud of na may Pilipino na dagdag doon sa attraction,” she said. “I hope it will inspire everybody, not just the Filipinos, but everyone who goes there.” (MJ Felipe/abs-cbn)
