Filipino-Canadian Hairstylist James Valiant Named Semi-Finalist in Four Categories at the 2026 Contessa Awards

VANCOUVER, BC – Acclaimed Filipino-Canadian hairstylist James Valiant has been announced as a semi-finalist in four categories at the upcoming 2026 Contessa Awards, Canada’s most prestigious awards program recognizing excellence in professional hairstyling and beauty.

Valiant, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has earned nominations in the following categories:
• British Columbia Hairstylist of the Year
• Multicultural Hairstylist of the Year
• Avant Garde Hairstylist of the Year
• Texture Hairstylist of the Year

Produced by Salon Magazine, the Contessa Awards are often referred to as the “Oscars of Hair” in Canada. Since 1988, the awards have spotlighted outstanding talent and innovation in the beauty industry through a rigorous, photo-based competition judged by a panel of leading industry experts.

“I’m deeply honored to be recognized in four distinct categories,” says Valiant. “These nominations reflect not only my personal journey as a hairstylist, but also the passion, diversity, and creative expression that drives the beauty industry in Canada. The Contessa Awards Gala will take place on November 16, 2025, in Toronto, where finalists and winners will be celebrated during an evening of glamour, creativity, and industry recognition.
