The community is lining up to support a planned Vancouver city council motion by Mayor Ken Sim for a Filipino cultural centre on Main Street.

Joining the drive are the Fil-Can Cultural Heritage Society (FCCHS) and the True North Hinirang Eagles Club.

In separate letters addressed to city council and copied to Mayor Sim and Vancouver-Kensington MLA Mable Elmore, FCCHS and the Eagles expressed appreciation for the move to fast-track the creation of the Filipino cultural centre.

“This initiative is profoundly meaningful to us. For many years, the Filipino community has carried the dream of having a home that represents our identity, our values, and our contributions to the fabric of this great city,” the FCCHS stated in their letter.

The Eagles, for their part, stated: “This proposal represents a timely and meaningful recognition of the Filipino community’s longstanding contributions to the cultural, economic, and social vitality of our city.”

ReyFort Media is publishing in full the letters sent to city council by FCCHS and the Eagles.
