We, the officers and members of the One Filipino Cooperative of BC, representing over five hundred Filipino Canadians, along with FilCooperative One Housing Society, are writing to express our strong support for the proposed Filipino Cultural Centre on Main Street in Vancouver, as initiated by Mayor Ken Sim and the Filipino Legacy Society.
As advocates for affordable housing in BC, we have consistently supported the initiatives of Mabuhay House Society, Filipino BC, and now the Filipino Legacy Society. We recognize that beyond housing, the Filipino Cultural Centre addresses a critical community need, particularly in light of recent challenges facing our community.
The Cultural Centre will serve as a dynamic hub for artistic expression, cultural exchange, and community engagement, enriching the lives of both residents and visitors. It will provide a dedicated space to nurture, preserve, and showcase Filipino culture while highlighting our community’s valuable contributions to Canadian society.
Beyond cultural programming, the Centre will foster social support and well-being by providing safe gathering spaces, combating isolation, creating volunteer opportunities, and facilitating partnerships with local organizations to address community needs and promote healthy living.
We believe the Filipino Cultural Centre will be a valuable asset to Vancouver, enhancing the city’s cultural vitality and strengthening social cohesion. We wholeheartedly support efforts to bring this vision to life and are confident it will create lasting positive impact for our community and the broader Vancouver area.
Thank you for your consideration of this important proposal. We eagerly anticipate the realization of this meaningful project.
