ReyFort Media is publishing a letter sent by the B.C. Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport to Lester De Guzman, chairperson of Mabuhay House Society.

Mabuhay sought a statement from the ministry after Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim filed a notice of motion in council on September 16, 2025 to expedite the delivery of a Filipino cultural centre on Main Street.

Mayor Sim has also endorsed the Filipino Legacy Society (FLS) as a partner in the planned development of the said cultural centre.

A copy of the letter was previously circulated on social media.

It remains to be seen whether the Vancouver mayor will go ahead with his intended motion in council amid strong indications that the measure is likely going to be politicized by opposition councillors at city hall.

Also, it is not yet known if the plan for the Main Street location will push through because of determined efforts by certain quarters in the Filipino community to derail the project.
