More than a Game
This Mayor’s Cup is designed to be more than competition — it’s a celebration of inclusivity, character-building, and community. “Sport is for everyone. It is not just about winning but also building character, building community and have fun,” Mayor Brenda Locke said, urging everyone to play, watch, and support.
The Inspiration Behind the Event
The idea and initiative came from Rey Fortaleza, CEO of ReyFort Media and Sports Consultant, whose efforts helped bring the event to life. John Raganit, President and Founder of Drive & Dish Basketball, told Mayor Locke the program’s vision is clear: Make Basketball Accessible To Everyone by promoting diversity, unity and camaraderie and partnering with the City of Surrey, schools, local businesses and community groups.
Community Support and Partnership
Present at the recent meeting were Noemi Victorino (City of Surrey), Dax Camarsi (FCCHS President), and Rommel Emata (Resilience Basketball) – illustrating strong backing from local organizations committed to community development through sport.
