This year’s VIFF line-up was announced earlier this month with over 170 feature films and over 100 short films in 10 unique venues around Metro Vancouver! It is the 44th year of our biggest local film festival and this year might be the biggest yet, in terms of big features that are highly anticipated among the cinephile community.
This year’s line-up is filled with superstar directors (Richard Linklater, Luca Guadagnino, Park Chan Wook, Noah Baumbach, and Rian Johnson), award winning actors, and over 130 films having a (North American or world) premiere!
This year’s expanded line-up has also meant an expansion of their venues! This year there are 10 venues in play, along with special events around the city. One such event is the special screenings that will be taking place at HR Macmillan Space Centre, which will be having shows and presentations in their 360 degree dome!
Vancouver’s Filipino community has 4 offerings to look forward to this year! Starting with the Philippines’ official submission to this year’s Oscars, “Magellan”, stars international icon Gael Garcia Bernal as Ferdinand Magellan on his journey in the Philippines. Next, a documentary about Apo Whang-Od is making it’s North American premier. Titled, “Treasure of the Rice Terraces”, this is a look at one of the Philippines’ most famous citizens. Keep an eye on our website to find out more about the Pinoy representation at VIFF 2025.
