RITE Richmond Thanks Mayor Brodie and Looks Ahead to Richmond’s Next Chapter

Richmond, BC – With today’s announcement from Mayor Malcolm Brodie that he will not seek re-election in 2026, Richmond enters a new chapter in its civic journey. On behalf of RITE Richmond, Councillors Carol Day, Michael Wolfe, Laura Gillanders, and Candidate Jerome Dickey extend heartfelt thanks to Mayor Brodie for his 25 years of service and leadership.

“Mayor Brodie has governed Richmond with his style of governance, and we have learned from his successes and challenges,” said Councillor Carol Day. “His commitment to our city has helped shape the community we know today and as we move forward, we will continue to build on our hard work with regards to keeping our city safe and welcoming new residents as we build more affordable options to rent and own.”

As we look to the future, Richmond stands at a crossroads. The next mayor and council will inherit both the legacies of the past and the challenges of the present. From addressing housing affordability and climate adaptation to strengthening infrastructure and community wellbeing, the choices we make now will define the kind of city Richmond becomes.

“Richmond has an opportunity to chart a new course that reflects the values of our diverse and dynamic population,” said Councillor Michael Wolfe. “This is a moment to recommit ourselves to a vision of a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient city.”

Councillor Laura Gillanders emphasized the importance of listening and collaboration: “The future of Richmond must be built with our residents. Together, we can ensure that growth benefits everyone and that our city remains a place where families, businesses, and communities thrive.”

Jerome Dickey added: “This is a time for bold leadership and fresh ideas. We can build on the strong foundation left by Mayor Brodie while moving toward a Richmond that is more affordable, more livable, and more equitable.”

Mayor Brodie’s served for 25 years, and we all know what dedication that takes. Council is well-positioned to take on the challenges. With gratitude for his service, RITE Richmond looks forward to working with residents, community organizations, and future leaders to create the Richmond of tomorrow.
