MANILA, Philippines — Actress Bela Padilla finds it “tacky” to see “brand-on-brand” fashion on people, a topic that has been a favorite these days amid talks on lavish lifestyles.
Bela shared her life in London, where she lived away from the limelight for four years. She recently came back to the country and has been quite busy with showbiz commitments, including another movie with favorite collaborator JC Santos titled “100 Awit Para Kay Stella.”
“Simple pero engrande. I saw so many things that I wouldn’t see here. I watched plays, full-on productions. I got to experience the efficiency of a first world country,” she told journalist Karen Davila.
Karen then asked Bela about “nepo babies, nepo wives, nepo this, nepo that.”
“You don’t see people wearing branded stuff, like, super in your face, you know? If they do, it’s one. It’s one piece in their whole outfit. It’s not brand on brand on brand,” Bela answered.
“Dito, it’s so tacky. I’m sorry to say, but it’s so tacky. Sorry.
“No, pero nababaduyan kasi ako. Brand on brand on brand. Guys, have some, ano naman, have some class. Kainis,” Bela said.
Their conversation also veered toward politics, a topic that Bela, courtesy of her famous last name, cannot avoid. Her uncle, actor Robin Padilla, is currently a senator of the republic.
Bela believes she is not needed in politics, sticking to her core as an actor, director and writer. The actress, however, quipped that at present, anybody can be a politician.
“At this state of how our country is, I would pick a random person on the street right now and choose them to be there instead of the people that we have at the moment… I feel like there are so many people who I feel like are more capable at the jobs that are given so easily to people who are not capable,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, Bela Padilla admitted that she has different ideologies with her uncle, incumbent senator Robin Padilla. In a recent interview with veteran broadcaster Karen Davila, she expressed how they’re two different people despite being related to one another.
Bela’s maternal grandmother is the sister of Robin’s mother, Eva Cariño, making her the niece of the senator by second-degree consanguinity.
“Actually, I don’t think I agree with 99 percent of the things he has been fighting for recently, or the ideologies he has,” she shared.
“We’re also very different people–– tito Robin’s muslim first of all, I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness so doon palang the base of our principles are already very different. Religion does play a big factor in how a person thinks,” she added.
Despite this, she maintained that her uncle is one of “nicest and kindest” people that she knows and recalled how generous and kind hearted he is.
“He is so so nice. He’s very generous. He has such a good heart, but I would do things differently. But you know, that doesn’t mean anything I feel because we’re different people,” she expressed.
Bela has been very vocal about her political views and opinions on her social media account which have been praised by her fans and other netizens.
