For the first time in his nearly two-decade career, Gerald Anderson is taking on double duty in ABS-CBN’s “Sins of the Father” — leading the series on screen while also stepping behind the camera to direct.

The Kapamilya star directed a high-stakes “1 vs. 100” fight sequence for the show’s new season, describing the experience as both daunting and rewarding.

“I had a conversation with Ms. JRB [Julie Anne Benitez] and the creative team, and they presented me with a 1 vs. 100 scene where Samuel, my character, would be put in that situation. I was also giving my inputs, and that’s the beauty of this team — they’re very collaborative,” Anderson said in a press conference.

Anderson admitted juggling both acting and directing was tough, “For three days, I did both directing and acting at the same time. It was really hard. One of the things I want to happen is to direct again in the future but not be an actor in it. I want to test myself.”

Despite its complexity, Sins of the Father became the most-watched series on iWantTFC during its first season.

Reyes credited the creative team’s effort to keep the story clear and relatable.

“The nicer part is in the middle of the show, and as we end our first book, it’s enjoying a very good position on OTTs [‘over-the-top,’ a platform that directly delivers content over the internet] where it’s considered number one. I think the creative team was very successful in writing and making it understandable for people,” Reyes finally said.

“Sins of the Father” airs its new chapter weeknights, 9:30 p.m., on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, TV5, iWant, and TFC. (I. Iglesias/Manila Times)
