Kapamilya host Bianca Gonzalez expressed how happy she is to see more of morenas in the showbiz industry as compared to when she started two decades ago. The Pinoy Big Brother host admitted as well how honored but pressured she is to be one of the “icons” of morena representation.
Bianca recently renewed her contract with ABS-CBN earlier this week, remaining a Kapamilya even after two decades. The contract signing was attended by ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, COO Cory Vidanes, group CFO Rick Tan, entertainment production and Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi, and Bianca’s manager Boy Abunda.
During the media conference after her contract signing, the Kapamilya star recalled how she was one of the few morenas in the past who would grace television screens.
“I am glad kasi nung nag simula ako sa industriya, industriya talaga siya ng mga tisay, mapuputi. I would often get bashed dahil ako ay maitim kumpara sa akin mga katrabaho,” she recalled.
Fast forward to two decades later, a lot has changed in the showbiz industry as Bianca noted how more morenas have entered.
“I am so glad na now napakarami ng magagandang morena who proved na hindi kailangan maging maputi para maging maganda. I’m happy to see more of us in the industry,” she added.
Bianca maintained that it’s an “honor, responsibility and pressure” to be considered to be one of the morena icons that the youth look up to today. Despite this, she expressed how happy she is with her natural skin color.
When asked about what she has learned in the industry after all these years, the Paano Ba ‘To host shared how she focused on doing her best at what was given to her at the time. She admitted having compared herself to other artists in the past but has used it as motivation to improve her craft.
“What I’ve learned is what you’re given now, kung ano man proyekto yun, you do your best there because that will take you to your next one… No job is too small, honestly,” she shared. (D. Acierto/push team/abs-cbn)
