Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III reshared a post mentioning his traits following his three-month tenure as the country’s top cop.
The reshare appeared to be his first social media activity after being removed from his position by Malacañang.
Torre reshared a post from the newly created Facebook page “Chief Torre, The People’s General,” which uploaded a picture of him during his charity boxing match against Acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte.
“Sa bawat laban—sa ring man o sa serbisyo—ang tagumpay ay laging para sa taumbayan,” the page said on Tuesday, August 26.
“Ang lakas at tapang ni Chief Torre ay para sa kapakanan ng bawat Pilipino. Dahil ang tunay na tagumpay ay ang patuloy na paglilingkod sa bayan,” it added.
The post has garnered 2,700 likes and reactions, 150 comments and 80 shares, including one from Torre himself.
This was Torre’s first Facebook post following reports of his removal as PNP chief.
The development surprised some Filipinos, including Reps. Leila de Lima and Perci Cendaña, former lawmaker Barry Gutierrez and forensic expert Raquel Fortun.
Torre was the cop behind the arrests of former president Rodrigo Duterte and detained televangelist Apollo Quiboloy.
He also made headlines after responding to Baste’s challenge for a fistfight and turning it into a charity match.
Meanwhile, Torre was replaced by Police Lt. Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr., the former PNP deputy chief for administration.
Reports said Torre would have had around one year and seven months as PNP chief before reaching the retirement age on March 11, 2027.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr sought to uphold the authority of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in removing Torre.
Torre previously disregarded a NAPOLCOM resolution that blocked his order to reassign some PNP officials, including his successor, Nartatez.
Sen. Ping Lacson, a former PNP chief, also believed that Torre was removed by the Palace after the latter went “beyond his authority” by unilaterally dismissing his second-in-command.
“Normally, the designation (and relief) of the members of the PNP Command Group-Deputy for Admin, Deputy for Opns and Chief, Directorial Staff should be cleared with the president or at least the ex-officio chairman of the NAPOLCOM, also the SILG (Secretary of Interior and Local Government),” the senator said.
