Vancouver, BC — Brace yourselves, Vancouver: the king of Filipino-American stand-up, Rex Navarrete, is set to take over the stage at the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC) on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the show starting at 7:30 PM.
For decades, Navarrete has been celebrated as the “Original Gago” (OG) of Fil-Am comedy — a trailblazer who carved out space for Filipino voices in the world of stand-up long before it became fashionable. His sharp wit, spot-on characters, and fearless cultural commentary have made him a household name across the Filipino diaspora. From his legendary routines like “Maritess vs. the Superfriends” to his observations about immigrant life, Navarrete has mastered the art of turning shared struggles and quirks into unforgettable punchlines.
What sets Rex apart from other Fil-Am comedians is the authenticity and relatability of his storytelling. He doesn’t just perform jokes — he paints vivid, hilarious pictures of family life, cultural clashes and the immigrant experience that resonate with Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike. His humor is both deeply personal and universally appealing, earning him fans not just across North America but around the globe.
Joining Navarrete in Vancouver are guest comedians Darwin Barcellano, Jane Vee and Mike Saddi; hosted by Jedro Magtoto. Each bringing their own comedic flavour to the stage. Together, they promise an evening filled with laughter, nostalgia and the kind of cultural pride only comedy can deliver.
For the Filipino community in Vancouver — and anyone who loves stand-up comedy — this one-night-only show is more than just entertainment; it’s a celebration of identity, resilience and humor that connects generations.
