Seven films are in the running to represent the Philippines at the 2026 Academy Awards.
On Aug. 15, Friday, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman Jose Javier Reyes announced the contenders after a press conference for Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM). The selection committee, composed of seven filmmakers and industry leaders, will finalize the entry later this month, with the announcement set for PFIM’s gala night on Sept. 11.
The films under consideration are Antoinette Jadaone’s “Sunshine,” Lav Diaz’s “Magellan,” Baby Ruth Villarama’s “Food Delivery,” Cathy Garcia-Sampana’s “Hello, Love, Again,” Zig Dulay’s “Green Bones,” Petersen Vargas’ “Some Nights I Feel Like Walking,” and King Palisoc’s “Song of the Fireflies.”
Reyes noted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences must confirm the committee before the official entry is submitted by Oct. 1. The chosen film will receive support from the Film Academy of the Philippines and ₱1 million from the FDCP for promotion.
Only 15 films worldwide will make the International Feature Film shortlist on Dec. 16. The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will be held on March 15. (A. Villanueva/ Manila Standard)
