The Vancouver Police Department has confirmed that three additional second-degree murder charges have been laid against Kai-Ji Adam Lo, the man accused of driving a vehicle into a crowd during the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver on April 26, 2025.
This brings the total number of murder charges to 11, following the tragic mass casualty incident that shook the local Filipino community, when a vehicle rammed through festivalgoers at the popular celebration held in South Vancouver.
The latest charges were approved earlier today by the BC Prosecution Service, following further evidence submitted by the Vancouver Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
Lo, 30, was initially arrested and charged with eight counts of second-degree murder just one day after the incident. He has remained in custody since. The three new charges were added after forensic analysis, eyewitness testimonies, and autopsy results confirmed the deaths of additional victims linked to the attack.
The motive behind the deadly assault remains under investigation. Authorities have so far not ruled out mental health concerns, though no specific details have been released regarding Lo’s background or possible connections to the victims.
“This continues to be one of the most devastating cases our department has handled,” said VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison. “Our investigators are committed to ensuring justice is served for all victims and their families.”
The Filipino community across Canada and abroad continues to mourn the loss of the 11 victims, many of whom were long-time residents and active members of cultural and civic organizations. Dozens more were injured, several still recovering from life-altering wounds.
