Vancouver, BC — A celebration of Filipino cinema is coming to Metro Vancouver this summer as SinePilipinas 2025, a Filipino international independent film festival, hosts screenings in Burnaby, New Westminster, and Surrey. The festival is organized by the INARTE Society, formally known as the Filipino-Canadian Society for Interactive Arts & Events.
This year’s screenings will be held at three venues:
- August 8 – Metrotown Hall, Burnaby
- August 9 – Anvil Theatre, New Westminster
- August 10 – Centre Stage at Surrey City Hall
The festival will showcase a wide selection of independent films by emerging and established Filipino filmmakers from around the world. SinePilipinas 2025 aims to promote Filipino culture, diversity, and artistic expression through the powerful medium of film.
“This festival is a cultural bridge between the Philippines and Canada,” said Ryan Ferrer, Co-Chair of the SinePilipinas 2025. “We’re proud to offer a platform for Filipino filmmakers to share their stories with audiences here in British Columbia. It’s about representation, community, and the future of our cultural voice.”
Michael Cabal, fellow Co-Chair, echoed Ferrer’s sentiments. “SinePilipinas is about pride in our heritage, but also about opening the door for young, independent creators to thrive on the international stage,” said Cabal. “We’re excited to see this next wave of Filipino talent gain recognition and support.”
The event is being presented with support from the City of New Westminster, the City of Surrey, and the Province of British Columbia, whose cultural grant programs continue to empower diverse voices in the arts sector.
The INARTE Society has been an advocate for cultural engagement, using film and interactive events to promote the stories and identities of Filipino-Canadians and the global Filipino community. SinePilipinas is one of its flagship programs aimed at nurturing young talent and strengthening intercultural exchange.
The organizers also added that film screening is FREE to the public and details on the festival’s featured films and ticketing will be released soon via the Society’s website and social media channels or email the group at inartesociety@gmail.com or send text message at 604.3322.844
