Surrey, BC – July 19, 2025 — The 12th annual Philippines Historama lit up the stage once again with a powerful showcase of Filipino history, culture, and community spirit.  Held on July 19, 2025 at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby, this year’s presentation drew an enthusiastic crowd and honored more than a decade of celebrating the rich tapestry of Filipino identity in British Columbia.

Consul General Gina Jamoralin of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver graced the event as guest of honor, delivering an inspiring keynote speech. She said that Historama is more than a performance and is a bridge that connects Canadian youth to their Filipino roots, reminding them of who they are and where they come from. She adds that the show keeps our stories alive.

A major highlight of the program was the participation of two youth-led Filipino cultural groups. The Himig Kabataan Cultural Society moved the audience with four heartfelt songs evoking nationalism and nostalgia, while PhilCas of BC thrilled attendees with lively and graceful performances of traditional Philippine dances.

Event organizer Carmelita Tapia, the driving force behind Philippines Historama since its inception, expressed deep gratitude and excitement over the program’s continued success. “It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in twelve years,” Tapia said. “Every year, volunteers from all walks of life in our Filipino community step forward—teachers, students, professionals, parents—to bring these stories to life. It’s truly a labor of love.”

Tapia emphasized the role of youth and intergenerational involvement in sustaining Filipino heritage abroad. “Our goal has always been to pass on our history in a way that engages the next generation,” she added. “When young people sing our songs or dance our dances, they don’t just perform—they inherit something powerful.”

With a cast of dedicated volunteers and a growing audience each year, Philippines Historama continues to be a cultural cornerstone for Filipino-Canadians in British Columbia, reminding everyone that history told with heart can shape the future.
