Royal Canadian Navy Welcomes representatives of the Filipino Community Aboard HMCS Vancouver and Promotes Career Opportunities


Filipino community members toured HMCS Vancouver, learning about military careers and recruitment opportunities with the Canadian Armed Forces.

On Saturday, July 5th, members of the Filipino community were welcomed aboard the Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Vancouver, docked at Burrard Dry Dock Pier in North Vancouver.

Sincere thanks to Dan Thomas, Lieutenant (Navy) Jesse Grigor and Filipino Community Outreach Volunteer – Mike Calingo, for the opportunity and for organizing the tour. Thanks as well to Sailor First Class John France and Sailor First Class Mark Ocampo, both of Filipino descent, for guiding the group on board.

The tour included representatives from UFCABC – Christian Cunanan, UPAABC – Stephen Andrada, ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs – Israel nd Rowena Papasin, True North Hinirang Eagles Club – Cj and Jhon Lacaba,  FCCS – Amado Mercado lll, and the Benguet Society – Bruce Ganase & Family, and Junelia May joined the tour, aimed at promoting career opportunities in the Canadian Armed Forces.

A recent change in the career recruitment process now allows permanent residents with open work permits to apply to join the Canadian Armed Forces, including the Canadian Royal Navy, giving more individuals the chance to pursue a career in military service.

Special thanks to the Royal Canadian Navy for the warm hospitality and outreach to the Filipino-Canadian community represented by various Filipino organizations.
