It was in June last year when actress Eula Valdes proudly shared that she became a full-fledged Philippine Air Force reservist as part of the the distinguished batch of graduates of BCMT BUGHAW CL 2024A. She was simply known to her colleagues as Sgt. Maria Julia A. Valdes PAFR.
In another post, the 56-year-old actress couldn’t help but commend her batchmates for finishing their challenging course. She wrote, “Kudos on our remarkable achievement! Our dedication and perseverance have paid off and serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that with passion and hard work, anything is possible. May susuka pero walang susuko!!!”
Known for playing fierce and fearless roles onscreen, Eula has proven that she is just as impressive in real life as she goes through further training as a reservist. Last June 29, Eula joined a search and rescue auxiliary training which included a challenging one mile swim in open water that was made to demonstrate their endurance and commitment to water rescue operations.
Eula wrote in her Instagram account last July 1, “Mission accomplished, 1 Mile Swim, SARAT SAMBISIG CLASS 2025 Search and Rescue Auxiliary Training . Thank you 505th Search and Rescue Group”
According to the Philippine Air Force 505th Search and Rescue Group page, the search and rescue training is done to “equip the students with essential skills for flood response and water-based emergencies, enhancing their capability to save lives and protect communities. With Pampanga’s vulnerability to flooding, this training plays a vital role in strengthening local disaster preparedness and response.”
Last March, the actress shared a lighthearted moment between her and her female co-army reservists at the 1st Air Reserve Center in Pasig City.
As part of her duty as an army reservist, the talented actress also makes sure to be present at various programs in the army. Last year, she posted her participation in a local feeding program. She wrote, “BAGONG SILANG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL National Learning Center
PAFR Donation of School Supplies and Feeding Program with Col Elmer Nicholas, LTC Roldan R. Vargas, Major Emelinda H. Jacobo, Major Raymundo A. Villaraza, 1LT Arthur B. Pareja, 2LT. Arque A. Daantos and PAFR BCMT Class 2024 ALPHA 🇵🇭”
Known during her teen years as one of the original members of the iconic 1984 coming-of-age comedy film Bagets, Eula has since gone on to become a multi-awarded actress with a career that has spanned more than four decades.
One of her most iconic roles was in the 2000 ABS-CBN series Pangako Sa ‘Yo where she brought to life the character of one of Philippine primetime teleseryes most famous protagonists, Amor Powers. Eula is also the granddaughter of the country’s first recognized national artist and painter Fernando Amorsolo. (R.M. Santos /push team)
