MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actor Arjo Atayde, who won a fresh term as congressman of Quezon City’s First District, wasted little time on his first day back in office.

Atayde has filed eight priority measures as part of his pre-campaign vow of swift, responsive and inclusive public service.

In a statement, the actor-lawmaker underscored his “Aksyon Agad” initiative aimed at helping his constituents.

“The government must be present, proactive, and purposeful. That is what ‘Aksyon Agad’ is all about — getting things done for the people who depend on us to make their lives better,” Atayde said.

“These measures are about listening to the people, understanding what they need, and then doing something about it right away,” he added.

Atayde filed the following measures:

  • Increase the bed capacity of East Avenue Medical Center from 1,000 to 1,500 beds
  • Standardize the salaries and benefits of barangay officials, converting their compensation from honoraria to regular government salaries with proper benefits
  • Establish a national framework and inter-agency mechanism to promote film and television tourism in the Philippines;
  • Declare Quezon City as the Film and Television Arts Capital of the Philippines in recognition of its vital role in the country’s creative economy;
  • Create a national forensic DNA database to strengthen criminal investigations, disaster victim identification, and the exoneration of the innocent;
  • Regulate the use of artificial intelligence and automation in the labor industry to prevent job displacement and ensure transparency and worker protection;
  • Prohibit all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression (SOGIE), and impose penalties for violations.

“Our constituents should not have to wait years for problems to be solved. They need answers, they need action — Aksyon Agad — and that is what we are here to deliver. Kaya nandito kami,” said Atayde.

Also filed was a House resolution urging the Department of Transportation and the Metro Rail Transit Corporation to rename the North Edsa MRT-7 Station to “Bago Bantay North Edsa Station”, in recognition of the community’s historical significance and cultural identity. (Philstar)
