The Abbotsford Canucks, AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, won their first Calder Cup on Monday with a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Checkers in Game 6 of the Final. The season, which began in October under new Head Coach Manny Malhotra, ended in triumph with playoff MVP Arturs Silovs making 28 saves, and Linus Karlsson scoring the game-winner—his 14th of the postseason.

Their playoff journey began in April with a best-of-three win over the Tucson Roadrunners, followed by a 3-1 series victory against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In the Pacific Division Final, they shut out the Colorado Eagles 5-0 in Game 5 to reach their first Western Conference Final.

There, Abbotsford defeated the Texas Stars in six games, earning a spot in the Calder Cup Final against Charlotte, who had swept Laval. The Canucks led the Final 3-1 but lost Game 5 in overtime at home. In Game 6, goals from Sammy Blais, Danila Klimovich, and Karlsson, along with Silovs’ performance, secured Abbotsford’s historic championship win.
