RICHMOND, BC – On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the City of Richmond marked the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month with a formal Flag Raising Ceremony held at the Richmond City Hall Plaza.
Now in its 11th year, this annual tradition continues to highlight the rich cultural heritage and enduring contributions of the Filipino community to the City of Richmond. The event was organized in collaboration with the Richmond 55ers Wellness and Fitness Society, led by Marilou Maclang-Yodogawa, Emcees – Guillermo Francisco and Reggie Plana-Alcuaz and was joined by members of the United Filipino-Canadian Associations in British Columbia (UFCABC), Reyfort Media, Richmond “Bayanihan” Society of BC, United Leytenos Society, Richmond School district No. 38 and Jesus Is Lord Church
The ceremony was honored by the presence of Mayor Malcolm Brodie, along with Councillors Alexa Loo, Chak Au, Andy Hobbs, Bill McNulty, and school board trustee Rod Belleza. Also in attendance were representatives from various levels of government, including the Consul General of the Philippines, MLA Steve Kooner, MLA Mable Elmore, and MP Parm Bains.
Guests were treated to cultural performances and a warm display of community spirit throughout the morning. The City of Richmond’s continued support was once again evident, reinforcing its commitment to diversity and inclusion.
