“The Pride of the Philippines” Manny Pacquiao joined the list of fighters enshrined in boxing’s most hallowed halls this week. Taking place in Canastota, the ceremony featured the familiar faces that appeared during Pacquiao’s career. Long-time coach Freddie Roach and Manny appeared together in front of the newest plaque at the IBHOF.
Their legendary relationship began after a single mitts session where Pacquiao wow’d the LA based trainer. Years in the Wild Card boxing gym followed this initial meeting and their careers took off from there. Belts and history-making feats became the norm for the humble duo.
Another guest was one of Pacquiao’s fiercest rivals. Erik “El Terriblé” Morales was also on hand to congratulate Pacquiao on joining this year’s hall of fame class. After initially beating Pacquiao by decision in their first fight and drawing out a legendary quote from Jim Lampley (“This is boxing at it’s best!”), Morales was stopped by Pacquiao in both rematches.
Pacquiao’s fellow inductees included Vinny Paz, Michael Nunn, Yessica Chavez, Mary Jo Sanders, and Anne Sophie Mathis.
Amongst other notable attendees, were women’s boxing notable “Christy Martin”, and Sydney Sweeney who will play Martin in an upcoming movie.
Pacquiao is set to return to the ring vs World Champion Mario Barrios this coming July.
