PRESS RELEASE: 04 June 2025

On behalf of the United Filipino Canadian Associations of British Columbia (UFCABC), a coalition of over 60 duly registered societies representing the Filipino-Canadian community in British Columbia, we express our full and unwavering support for the City of Vancouver’s planned event in honor of the victims of the Lapu-Lapu Block Party tragedy.

This initiative was announced by Mayor Ken Sim during a community engagement session held at Langara College on May 9, 2025. We commend the City for its inclusive and compassionate approach, ensuring that the voices of all affected communities including Filipino, Hogan’s Alley, Latincouver, and Vietnamese groups were part of the consultation process.

As a community, we are united in our commitment to support all efforts aimed at healing and rebuilding. We will continue to work closely with the City of Vancouver and other community partners to help ensure the success of each initiative being organized in response to this tragedy.

We welcome the City’s commitment of funding toward the planned event. This show of solidarity is both meaningful and appreciated. UFCABC is in full support of the upcoming benefit concert at Rogers Arena, in collaboration with the Vancouver Canucks. We acknowledge and are grateful for the City’s consistent and open communication with the Filipino community since day one of this tragic event.

Together, with compassion and unity, we can help bring comfort, support, and hope to those affected.
